“Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In” was a groundbreaking comedy variety series created by producer George Schlatter. The show premiered in 1968 and featured a fast-paced format with rapid-fire sketches and one-liners. Alongside Dan Rowan and Dick Martin was an eclectic ensemble cast which included breakout stars Goldie Hawn, Lily Tomlin, Henry Gibson, Arte Johnson, Jo Anne Worley, Ruth Buzzi, and announcer Gary Owens. The show had regular celebrity guests such as Jack Benny, Cher, Phyllis Diller, Flip Wilson, Tiny Tim, Sammy Davis Jr., Carol Channing and Henny Youngman. The show was heavily influenced by hippie culture with innovative, cutting-edge and, often controversial, humor that made it the most popular TV show in America. It showcased the 60s and 70s culture with its flashy outfits, quick humor and iconic characters and such running bits as Edith Ann, Ernestine, The Farkel Family, Fickle Finger of Fate, Wolfgang, Gladys and Tyrone and countless others.
