Collection: Redd Foxx Show
“Redd Foxx Show” was a variety show starring actor and comedian Redd Foxx. The show piggybacked off of his success on the NBC sitcom “Sanford and Son” where he played the owner of a junk store named Fred G. Sanford. He left the show in 1977 and began working with ABC to produce his own variety show.
His monologues and sketches offered the same quick-witted, often outrageous, comedy Foxx was best known for. The show had recurring characters such as “Alphonze and Victoria” where Foxx and Jo Marie Payton portrayed a squabbling married couple and “Dr. Sausage and the Pork Chops,” with Foxx playing Dr. Sausage, a band leader at a nightclub that offers open mic nights for “amateur” comedians. Such "amateurs" included Andy Kaufman, Rip Taylor and The Unknown Comic. Other segments included “Redd’s Corner” where Foxx invited some of his pals in the business to perform stand-up sets including Slappy White, Pat Morita, Rodney Dangerfield and Jackie Gayle.
Foxx had a cast of series regulars such as, Bill Saluga’s famous Raymond Jay Johnson Jr., Bob Einstein (aka Super Dave Osborne) portraying the often stressed show producer, Iron Jaws Wilson (the name speaks for itself) and Billy Barty. Special guest stars included “Sanford and Son” co-star LaWanda Page and Flip Wilson, Muhammad Ali, Florence Henderson, Suzanne Somers, Steve Lawrence and Lorne Green.
