Known for her signature price-tagged hat and distinctive greeting of “How-dee,” Minnie Pearl (Sarah Cannon) became a pioneer in country comedy and entertainment. She rose to fame in the 1940s for her performances at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, conveying stories of her life and family in the rural town of Grinders Switch. She also appeared in TV shows such as “Hee Haw” and “The Nashville Palace.” She’s collaborated with many other stars, including Hank Williams, Dolly Parton and Tennessee Ernie Ford.
